In previous version for CM, it's very easy to upgrade C-LAN firmware. But I met a problem in CM3.1.1. The document said I sould enable filexfer (security set to y), and use sftp command in DOS to connect C-LAN, but there's no such command. If I use the tradition way (security set to n), and ftp to C-LAN, it's ok, but I can not execute change firmware download in ASA, it prompt this kind of circuit can not be upgraded.

What's the wrong with it? Why there's no sftp command in DOS while the document said I should use that?

Thanks a lot!

I've done firmware upgrades to CM 3.1.1 using the un-secure procedure. On the 'enable filexfer' form set the 'secure' field to 'n'.

The CLAN is a self download.

You enable filexfer, leave security set to n.

FTP into the CLAN.
Set to binary mode
put the file on the CLAN

Setup the firmware download in ASA. The Source and destination are the same.

I thinks the only reason to use Security set to yes is if you are doing a VAl Board

Cheers :)

Do you have to set secure to 'y' when upgrading VAL boards? I tried to upgrade mine yesterday, and the download failed.

Also, where is this setting? I use 'enable filesystem board xxxx login username password' to enable xfer.
I do not see any security settings. I would like to upgrade my VAL board, so any help would be appreciated.

Beginning in CM 2.x the firmware command was changed from 'enable filesystem board [slot] login [login]' to 'enable filexfer'.

Kevin, I have done many firmware updates, but have never done my VAL board. Yesterday was the first attempt to download, and it blew up. Luckily, reseating the card put things back the way they were. I know that sometimes a failed download can corrupt a board. A VAL board update is no different than any other, right? Same as TN464, or TN2302 medpro?

With the VAL board update there is the added step 'cd /' to put the update in the correct directory. If you do 'list directory board [slot]' you should see the firmware update file.

So, I need to ftp this file directly to the VAL board? If I seem confused, it's because I am.[dazed]

Just found a document detailing the VAL board update. I did't realize this board was not CLAN distributed update. Thanks for your help, Kevin.

kinghway,

there's no standard sftp utility in windows, you have to use a third-party one. there are plenty of freeware secure shell clients including scp, sftp and ssh. one of them is putty.
