hi.. do i need to uninstall at all ?

the exact message i am getting " an internal application error has occured " as soon as i click on media player.

i want to use media player but want to repair it.

i thought it could be an update problem..i trid to upadte it but at the updation time it is saying some .dll is missing.

however i want to use media player. do i need to uninstall at all ? the 13 mb media player 9 xp that i have is this the whole media player program ? i dont think so, probabily it is just for updation.

anyway, is there anyway to recover media player without uninstalling ?

You asked for uninstall info, initially.

My gut reaction was...why do they want to uninstall?

At 13+ megs, you've got the full install...for 9x.

It appears that the install for XP is smaller, at around 9 megs...
I'd install over the existing instance.

If you wish to repair WMP8 run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy. Or repair Windows itself by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.

How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade (Reinstallation) of Windows XP (Q315341)

There is no easy way to uninstall WMP that I know of, it is a bit like IE and built into XP to such an extent that it is an integral part of the operating system.

You may install WMP9 straight over the top of WMP8, but apart from Q315341, a restore from backup, or System Restore, there is no way to uninstall 9 to revert back to 8.

Make sure you also update your DirectX software.

This is a good site for all things WMP.
