I need to turn off TFTP service from coming up. I went to c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\ and edited service file. I have changed this entry from 69/udp to 0/udp, but still coming up.

Thanks for the help!

Are you sure you do not have Blaster or Sasser, both of which enable a TFTP service as part of their malware? Start, Run, services.msc
Any Service under XP can and should be configured here.

Do you have a firewall enabled?

While XP has a small tftp client, it does not by default or otherwise install a TFTP service.

Try "Bcastner's" suggestions first.

In Recovery Console you can list all the Services (and drivers) with "ListSvc". You can also use the "Enable" or "Disable" command to either enable or disable a service or driver.

HOW TO: Install and Use the Recovery Console for Windows XP (Q307654)

There may also be options in MsConfig.

Some third party software programs (especially security programs) often allow controlling services or drivers.

There is also the Registry.
