Hi,

When you edit a formula in Excel (2000) by clicking in the formula bar it sometimes displays help just below (in bold) which tells you the name of each argument and when you click through each, it increases in size slightly to tell you which argument you are now editing. Anyone know how to switch this ON?

Many thanks...

Hi,

Not sure what you mean exactly, but when you type the name of a function and the opening parenthesis (say SUM( ) and then press Ctrl + A there's this function help popping up. Also, if you type the name of the function and the opening parenthesis and then press Ctrl+Shift+a the argument list displays in the cell.

Are you talking about the wizard that appears when you click the = icon on the toolbar?

Hi,

thanks for the replys. What I'm on about is, if there is a formula in the formula bar e.g. =IF(D9=0,0,D12/D9) then if you click in to the formula (in the formula bar) directly below it in a beige rectangle you would recieve the following: IF(Logical_Test,[value_if_true],[value_if_false]).

When you click on say "Logical_Test" it would highlight the D9=0 part of the formula.

I am running Excel 2000, on a XP pc. I have the same setup at my work and it works fine!

Many thanks...

Hi JGKWORK,

AFAIK this (nice) feature was introduced in Excel XP. Are you sure you're seeing it on 2000 at your work?

Enjoy,
Tony

hehehe - That's where I was struggling, because that feature doesn't appear in 2K. It was introduced in XP and is to be found under Tools / Options / General Tab / Function Tooltips.

Just checked, its Excel 2002 (at work), sorry about that, but that explains it! It is a very nice feature for me as I am just starting to learn formulas etc.

Many thanks for all the help....
