Google is the ultimate registry tool, but what you really want to get to know and love is WSH.
The Microsoft "Windows 2000 Scripting Guide" is available at most good bookstores, and good computer stores with a decent book section. It is also available online:
It is nearly 1300 pages long, and in a practical sense covers any registry issue you might face. I rarely have to push a registry change; but the first reference I would turn to would be this Guide.
