How to set up Apache and password protection?

I'm a newbee to Apache. I would like to download and instll Apache server on my solaris 8 machine. How can I go about doing this and also how do I configure Apache, so that it can handle my website, also how can I enable users only with my username and password, to be able to view my site?

Any suggestions would be greatly apprieciated! Thanks in advance.
