Does anyone know how to set the 'new mail alert BEEP' in Outlook 2000, to use the system speaker?

I have heard it done on other's machines in my office. We don't have multimedia speakers, and I would love to be able to have a 'beep'!!!

Thx. But for some reason I can't open that page...

Don't knowe what you can't see the page Carrr refers you to but this is the gist of what it says ...

Tools>Options>E-Mail Options>Advanced E-mail Options

then check the play a sound box

OK all the way back out

Email arriving should now play the sound set

Control Panel>Sounds>New Mail Notification

Yes, but it does so through th esound card, We don't have speakers, but I can hear the sounds with headphones on. I want it to beep through the built-in system speaker....

Have you checked the Audio Tab on the Sounds 7 Multimendia Properties from Control Panel?

If you can hear the Beep via Headphones you may be able to change your audio Playback preferences from headphones to the on-board speaker. Failing that ...buy a soundcard and some cheap speakers ;-)

Sounds to me like you already have a sound card in the computer, maybe built into the motherboard. If so, look on it for something about system speaker, probably will need a cable to link to the speaker. I've seen some late Dells that feed the audio back to the system speaker when external speakers are not present. Could even be a setting in the BIOS to enable it but I haven't had occasion to look.
