How to send fax in VB.NET

The way that I approached the problem was to use the Fax Services component under Add/Remove Windows Components in XP Pro. This was then added as a service using Outlook XP. Faxes could be sent using the Outlook object model by creating a new email message and attaching a file (a PDF for example). A special email address had to be engineered:
FAX:1-800-555-5555 instead of yourname@domain.com
Otherwise, there was also a fax printer that could be used but the user had to type in the fax number that way.
On our network my 2000 server runs the Microsoft Shared Fax Service so I could also install this service on older 2000 Pro and NT 4.0 clients. If I am not mistaken, 9x and Me clients were out of luck with this solution.
Other than that, there are several 3rd party components that you can purchase to do the job.
Before you can start talking code, you'll have to decide what faxing technology you'll be using.
