I bought 5 new servers preinstalled with 2003 SR2 but the state IT authority hasn't extended the AD schema to SR2 so I can't use them as DCs. I'd be delighted to install SR1 but the computers won't allow an earlier version to install from within Windows and won't boot the CD either. So now what?

Only option is to get a CD/DVD it will cost about £30 for the media and licensing is fine as MS products are backwards compatable and I don't even think that sort of thing applies to Service Packs.

Its the easiest, simplest and cleanest option.

A little digging turned up the original CDs that shipped with the server, which included a bootable CD with a utility to reinstall the OS or install a different OS. Thanks.
