Hi,
Wondering if anyone had an answer for this:

I have a dos program looking for com 2 and a windows 98 machine configured with com 1. I want to rename the com 1 to com 2 so that the program can find com 2. How do you rename com1 to com2 in windows 98?

Regards,
Robert

If your system has 2 COM(serial) ports, then make sure COM 2 is enabled in BIOS.

If it has only one serial port(COM 1), then can the program be reconfigured to look for COM 1?

If you system only has 1 serial port, and you can't change the program as mentioned by ski, go into your CMOS and [if possible] change the serial port's Interrupt Request (IRQ) to 3. Then hopefully windows will recognize it as com2. It's possible that you may need to remove com1 from Windows Device Manager. Also, if you're not referring to a serial port, then none of that applies.

If you change the IRQ, you change the address, too.
