Some sites I have gone to label TV MEDIA as a virus I have been trying to remove it from my system for a few day's now those anyone have any tip's thank's

What do you mean, some websites label it as such? Do you have a TV/Multimedia card in your system that will allow you to watch live television, the same as watching on your cable/satelite tv? If the software came with your card, it should be safe. If you downloaded it off the web, it's possible to be spyware/virus. Try downloading these programs and checking with them:

Free antivirus, AVG Antivirus at Free Spyware Apps:
Ad-Aware: (download from )
SpywareBlaster: Spybot Search and Destroy - just do a google search, and pull up the link found at , as it's sure to be secure (or as sure as you'll find).

Here's what the spyware programs do: Ad-Aware removes spyware/adware files from your machine. Spywareblaster blocks files from being installed on your machine to start with. Spybot Search and Destroy scans your machine for spyware/adware files, and also blocks against files being installed.

You can scan with AVG, Ad-Aware, and Spybot Search and Destroy. Between the 3 of them, you should be able to find and remove any spyware/viruses for sure. If you are running Windows (assumed), make sure you have all critical updates as a minimum from Windows Update. You could always check in your start menu, and your "add/remove programs" under "control panel" to find the program - if it installed normally for windows apps. If it's in your add/remove programs list, just select it, and choose remove, then reboot after the uninstallation if necessary.

Yes, it is a malware program, it is not associated with any multimedia programs.

The problem with TV Media is that it is usually associated with a group of programs running on the machine. To get rid of this TV Media go into safe mode and delete all the files in the directory, and delete the directory as well - you may have to remove the "system" and "hidden" attributes off some files to delete them.

However, you most likely have some other associated malware program that upon reboot will put TV Media right back on the computer. They're getting tricky to remove now-a-days. You need to delete all of the malware programs on the computer with one go in safe mode.

I have been relying on Ad-Aware Personal 6.0 from lavasoftusa.com followed by Spybot Search & Destroy v1.3 from safer-networking.org, but with the layered installs, it's getting harder to clean systems and prevent the junk from trickling back in. A few tips: Check out the available Ad-Aware plugins at the lavasoftusa site. Before you start, end-task any known malware processes in the Task Manager. Then it wouldn't hurt to use MSConfig to disable unhelpful startup processes (btw, msconfig.exe works great when copied from an XP set to the C:\WINNT folder on a Win2K set). Not done yet- use HijackThis, available at to disable as many malware processes as possible. Reboot and scan back-to-back with updated versions of the above-mentioned programs. (Spy Sweeper from Webroot.com is another worthy title, but updates are not free after an initial trial period.) Boot to safe mode and run HijackThis again to see if any malware installer stubs survived the scans. It will take some practice and study, but you may have some success with this approach. Keep in mind that it is sometimes easiest to backup important data and simply reload the PC.

KJV1611's excellent post reminds me of a few more steps that should be part-and-parcel with any good malware exorcism: Before scanning, open up Internet Options, click on the security tab and click on the Default Level button. Click on the Restore Defaults button under the Advanced tab as well. Click Apply. While you're in there, click on the General tab and reset the homepage to Google.com or your favorite starting point. Also delete the Temporary Internet Files including all offline content. That will get rid of junk and make scans go faster. Next, update your anti-virus program and install any outstanding Windows critical updates and service packs. Finally, do a search for 'hosts' files on your PC, open with Notepad and look for any suspicious entries (most will only resolve 127.0.0.1 to localhost). If things have been truly weird, you may want to examine your DNS settings as well to make sure they have not been altered. It can happen. Then proceed as above. Cheers!

This TV MEDIA malware is for sure associated with a group of programs running on my the machine. I have un-installed and deleted all the file's and folders from the directory and registry and every time I reboot it install's it's self again. I need someone who know's or has a list of ALL the malware associated with this TV MEDIA CRAP. I have lavasoft, spybot, spysweeper, pc-cillin and a few other spyware programs, when I do the above all the spyware programs report a clean system, but as soon as I reboot lol TV MEDIA IS BACK AGAIN (ALL HELP WILL BE GREATLY APRECIATED) THANKS AGAIN

Have you gone into safe mode, and then run the spyware apps? Don't delete the files until after running the spyware apps, and possibly they apps will locate the registry entries that way which are causing the problems. You could also search for a program called RegScrubXP (works only with Windows XP to my knowledge) - It scans your registry for things that may be problems, and you can just scan through the list, and remove the ones you think are problems. If you make a mistake, just restore the file (you can tell if all of a sudden some shortcuts don't work, or some documents don't open with the correct program - I've not had any instability from it before). I haven't used that one in a while, but it did help show any errors in the registry before. My guess is that you have something in the registry which is causing this, not just in a folder on your pc.

It's not a precise science to removing malware anymore - it's looking at a list of what's running and deciding one by one if it's good or bad. I've dealt with the TV Media program on a machine, it's not fun, especially when that instance was my first time attempting cleanup of a system.

1) in safe mode delete all files in the temporary directory.
2) safe mode, with msconfig remove all startup entries that have the words "search", "bargain", "optimizer", "accellerator", "buddy", etc.
3) also remove any randomly named files running at startup - like maybe wsDurZDn.exe in the windows or windows\system directory. Also delete or rename them (so they're not .exe files) - a lot of times these files are marked as system & hidden.

That's not all the steps you need, but it's a good go.

Be sure to post back, and let everybody here know your progress, as well.

I am also having a problem with TV Media - however there seems to be new wrinkle - all the files in the TV Media directory are locked. Even as system administrator (Win2K) I cannot take ownership, delete, rename, or make any other permissions change.

I have repeatedly deleted the registry entries - run every adware program that I can find - and it comes right back. I am going to try a couple of the suggestions above, but I would appreciate any feedback on success stories.

Has anyone tried the info here? There is some tool listed, called X-Cleaner - and is the only tool listed that will fix this particular problem:

If not, try it, and post back with results! [SMILE]

I used kjv1611's site, which was helpful, but does not entirely complete the job. You need to start in safe mode in order to delete the files listed on the site, then run regedit.exe and search for the registry keys by using tvm, of tvmd or tv media and delete every key that has these strings. I don't know if this fullproof, but my browser hijacking has stopped.
