Access will not link or import any of my .dbf files with names longer than 8 characters.  Is there anyway to fix this?

Try importing them using the first 6 characters followed by ~1.dbf, but renaming is better...

I would really like to avoid renaming the files if at all possible.  I am talking about hundreds of files.  What's more they are a part of an ArcView GIS so its not so simple as changing a file name.  Every reference to that file in the GIS would also have to be changed.  It would be a great deal easier if there was a fix on the Access side which would allow Access to read longer .dbf file names.
