How to read .dbf with long file name

Access will not link or import any of my .dbf files with names longer than 8 characters.  Is there anyway to fix this?

Re-name them to 8.3?????<br>

Try importing them using the first 6 characters followed by ~1.dbf, but renaming is better...

I would really like to avoid renaming the files if at all possible.&nbsp;&nbsp;I am talking about hundreds of files.&nbsp;&nbsp;What's more they are a part of an ArcView GIS so its not so simple as changing a file name.&nbsp;&nbsp;Every reference to that file in the GIS would also have to be changed.&nbsp;&nbsp;It would be a great deal easier if there was a fix on the Access side which would allow Access to read longer .dbf file names.&nbsp;&nbsp;
