I currently have a vfp report that is an invoice
showing the each item as a line of detail.

The users watna "Revised" invoice
show the first the "old detial" and
the new lines of detail.

Is it possible to have 2 bands of detial on the same report?

They hsave to be in 2 seperate parts of the form so that
they cannot both be in the detial section?

"Is it possible to have 2 bands of detail on the same report"

I cannot say about what is coming in VFP9, but in VFP7 the answer is NO.

BUT, having said that, you are not absolutely without options.

If you add an additional field to your Report Table which would be used to differentiate the Old Detail records from the New Detail records.

Then by Indexing your table appropriately and by using Print When... you can generally get your data into the appropriate placement on the Report.

Good Luck,

As JRB suggests, the best way to do this before 9.0 (the public beta will be out in June!), is to be creative in how you set up the data given to the report.

Cathy Pountney has a whole section in her book ("The Visual FoxPro© Report Writer: Pushing it to the Limit and Beyond" - available at on some techniques to do this. If you can't wait for 9.0, don't want to use Crystal Reports or automate Access, then you may want to get this book. The ebook version is only minutes away! (Note: I get nothing from this, even though my name is in the acknowledgments - it's just a great book, and I learned so much from it.)

Hi:

Thanks for your help,

I added a logical flag between the "old" and "new"
record and set adata grouping based on the logical flag,
(If this is only one group, the "revised" section does not
show")

This seems to work well for the lines of detial
(I have to redo all the totals)

What would be the advantages of using VFP9 or Crystal Reports?

We have considered using Crystal reports for some
report, but it would have to be installed on each
machine?

P.S. I have "1001 you can do with foxpro2" that
has example of this also,
I have (but have not read) Megafox 2001 things,
I know it has a chapter on crystal reports

The advantage of VFP 9.0 or Crystal Reports is that they support multiple detail lines. For a picture and description of this feature go to (If you go to each of the letters has information on different parts of VFP 9.0!)

The public beta of VFP 9.0 will be available in June, and the product will likely be released in the September / October timeframe.
