Morning:

I configured two Solaris 10 hosts as DNS servers. One is the master and the other acts as a slave.
After update is made on master server’s zone file, I issue command:
“# rndc reload <zone-file-name>”
log file shows zone is loaded with the proper serial number. However, nothing is happening on the slave server.
On the slave side, I can issue command “# rndc refresh <zone-file-name>” to receive the update.
What is the proper method to “push” the zone-file updates from master server to all its slaves?

Both servers use the identical rndc-key on all servers.

Background:
O/S: Both servers are Solaris 10.
BIND: 9

Thanks in advance.

did you increment the serial number? And make sure you
don't wrap around, the serial number is a 16 bit signed int, I believe.

The serial number in the zone file follows the yyyymmddss format, 2006032202, for example. Master server knows when it senses a higher/newer serial number appears on a zone file and reload it, just does not push the updates to slave server.

Thanks.
