I'm working on an issue with a public website that deals with exclusive and copy-righted pictures. i have been asked to prevent people from downloading the pictures (right click / save function) and doing PrtScr to capture the image on microsoft paint. i have seen sites that block visitors from saving pictures. how is this done?
is there anyway to disable PrtScr function?
thanks.

No, nor would I even want to try. You are trying to disable a keyboard function on a client machine. You realize what kind of security breach that would be? Seriously breaking into a computer and disabling certain functions form a webpage?

If its displayed, it can be copied. Even websites that block it usually limit themselves to disabling the right click.

Just having the image show means there's already a copy in the client machine. I could simply go to the Temporary internet files there and find the picture.

You can spend stupendous amounts of time trying to prevent it, but there will always be some way around this.

Usually for pictures the best deal is to watermark them. other than tat there is not much you can do.

If you are really concerned about it, then just don't put them online.

Ignorance is not necessarily Bliss, case in point:
Unknown has caused an Unknown Error on Unknown and must be shutdown to prevent damage to Unknown.

Is there anyway to disable PrtScr function?
as Phil put it, there is no way possible to do that...

(right click / save function)
is a JavaScript applet, but easily overcome... and as mentioned, a copy already exists on the client PC...

Trap the right mouse click

best solution: Watermark

How to ask a question, when posting them to a professional forum.
Only ask questions with yes/no answers if you want "yes" or "no"

The other option (other than obvious watermarking) is to degrade the picture to a level that's not worth reproducing.

We've all heard that a million monkeys banging on a million typewriters will eventually reproduce the entire works of Shakespeare. Now, thanks to the Internet, we know this is not true.
