How to preserve destop icon location

When I change screen resolution, which is sometimes automatically forced by comnnecting to a lower resolution overhead projctor or external monitor, the location of my desktop icons is scrambled when I return to my preferred high resolution.

Is there a way of saving the scheme, and retsoring it when needed, other than System Restore?
