I'm using a third party imaging control (LeadTools) to open images in an application, however while it can open some TIF images there are others (eg created by Windows NT Fax Server) that won't open, probably because they're compressed using LZW for which LeadTools doesn't have a licence.

If I try using a WebBrowser control to open the images it spawns Windows Image Viewer.

Perhaps the best solution would be to open the TIFs in Windows Paint embedded in an OLE container, but I haven't been able to figure out how to do that, does anyone have any sample code for opening an image in Windows Paint within an OLE container? Or is there a better idea?

The biggest headache with WIA 2.0 is its hard to use documentation. It just isn't organized usefully and it leaves you hanging a lot (lots of "see xxx" where they don't even make xxx a hyperlink).

Aside from that it makes a handy powertool for many simple image operations.

In Vista and Windows 7 they're pushing us toward Microsoft Windows Imaging Component (WIC) instead. What's New for WIC in Windows 7. Luckily WIA 2.0 is still there, out of the box.
