Uhhh . . . where is 139 blocked? Wouldn't it be easier to get someone to open 139?

Hmmm. . . not trying to SMB across the internet, are we? Not a good idea. SMB isn't really secure enough for that. Describe what you're doing, maybe there is a better way.

This really isn't an option, and even if you could do it, it would break it. See Samba interacts with Windows networking which works on port 135, 137, and 139. You cannot change this. So if you could change the ports that Samba uses the Windows network wouldn't be able to see the shares since they are published on the windows networking ports. Now as far as them being blocked, there is a good reason for this. Normally a firewall will only block external sources from access these windows networking ports, however lan users, meaning those internal to the firewall should be able to access these ports fine. You would only want lan users using your shares anyway. You wouldn't want every internet user seeing what you are sharing.

Thanx for responding to this,as per u'r question as to where the port has been blocked,it is at the router. The network where i am trying to use is not internet, but our own local network whcih is spread across the geographical locations, anyway we are planning to give a rule at router to allow all incoming and outgoing packets from the specified IP...any probs in doing so ..pl let me know..
