How To Make A Picture Box Transparent?

Hello;

I made a picture box with a grey filled color. I am not importing a picture into it I just want a color box over an image and I want this color box to be semi-transparent.

Giving the image a nice effect with a semi-overlayed color on a corner side. I have no problem doing this effect in Illustrator 2 seconds...but Quark is not that easy friendly.

Please help.

Basically, you can't...sorry! Quark doesn't support transparency in that way (well, maybe some third party XTensions can, but not Quark on it's own.)

Sometimes you can work around this. The most obvious way is to do all your color overlays in another application (like Illustrator) and import them into Quark.

Also, if the picture is a grayscale or black & white tiff, you can change the color of both the picture box AND the picture in Quark. This may give you the effect of a color overlay if done carefully. Color tiffs can also be adjusted by playing around with Styles > Contrast.

Finally, investigate overprinting. It's a bit tricky, and you won't see the results on screen. Normally, when you print a block of color, Quark knocks out everything underneath it so you can see the color properly. With overprinting, Quark doesn't knock out anything, so you can, in effect, print an image and overlay a color.

But in the end, you're right: they don't make it easy!
