How to know the web server is hosted by ...?

If I want to know whether a web server is hosted by a hosting company, or by its own, how to figure it out? Thanks.

Use nslookup tool, this can be a little messy to use though. I would go to

http://www.network-tools.com

and enter the website domain, and select dns records. EB

can you explain more? how to know that server is hosted by hosting Co?

Do an nslookup on the

http://www.domain.com

and then a whois on the resulting IP address.

Well using

http://www.networksolutions.com

then pick whois in the top right corner. Type in the domain, like mydomain.com, with no

http://www in

front. Then it should bring up the registar and domain contacts. Many times these include phone numbers and sddresses to contact them. By revieiwing this you can find out who registered the domain and who administrates it. Hope this helps.

I knew how to find the registar and domain contacts info based on domain name, my question was is there a way to find out if user manages his own server(server located on user side), or user use virtual hosting server(server located on hosting company) based on domain name(where is web server located)? thanks.
