If I want to know whether a web server is hosted by a hosting company, or by its own, how to figure it out? Thanks.

can you explain more? how to know that server is hosted by hosting Co?

Do an nslookup on the and then a whois on the resulting IP address.

Chris.

Well using then pick whois in the top right corner. Type in the domain, like mydomain.com, with no front. Then it should bring up the registar and domain contacts. Many times these include phone numbers and sddresses to contact them. By revieiwing this you can find out who registered the domain and who administrates it. Hope this helps.

I knew how to find the registar and domain contacts info based on domain name, my question was is there a way to find out if user manages his own server(server located on user side), or user use virtual hosting server(server located on hosting company) based on domain name(where is web server located)? thanks.
