I think you can install the Desktop edition on Windows ME but I wouldn't recommend it. Windows NT is the preferred platform. Without NT you get no security and no replication. I'm not sure if you are working in a multi-user, shared environment. Whenever I've installed SQL Server 7 on anything less than NT I've had problems with it.
