I'm a Microsoft guy that has been thrown into the world of Novell and have some questions about NDPS before I ask for help installing it.

I want the network to go to Pure IP for speed purposes at the remote branches so I need to find out if NDPS is IP ready and need to figure out how to convert existing queues over to NDPS as well. What all do I need to know?

Thanks,

Matt Armfield

Matt, yes, NDPS will work great with IP only. You can leave the existing queues in place and have them serviced by the new NDPS printer agents. This is a great way to migrate to NDPS with the least impact on your end users. Once you're ready to implement all the features of NDPS (Automatic deployment and management, etc), you can get rid of the queues.

NDPS might already be installed. Check in NWCONFIG under products, view installed products. You should see "NDPS" in the list. If it's not there, pop in the netware 5.1 CD. From the console prompt type STARTX, then select Install from the graphical menu. Put NW51: in for the path (Assuming the cd is mounted).. If not, type CDROM and that should load the modules and mount it.

Once you get to the list of items to select from, hit CLEAR ALL, then check the NDPS box. Step through it and that will setup all the files you need. I believe you'll want to reinstall the NetWare service pack, so you might as well put on SP6.

Then create the objects in NDS and load them up on the server. I just remembered that I wrote some step by steps a while back.. go here. thread75-689730

Ok. first of all, StartX doesn't work, I get a bunch of errors. No biggie as I can work around that.

When I go to create the NDS Broker, I get a "no creator snap-in" error. Where are the snap-ins stored at so I can load this on my workstation?

Thanks,

Matt

Is NDPS installed at all? That error sounds like you don't have it installed.

You have to use the gui (startx) to install it... unless you do it manually but it is a pain. I would try to resolve the gui issue first.

This is for NDPS on NetWare 5.0, but I think for the most part it's the same process:

use nwadmin to do ndps stuff
console1 isnt supported
from a workstation run nwadmin32 for sys:public\win32
i would also install console1 onto pc

Terry, you made me rethink what Marmfield was asking and now I'm confused... Marmfield, what utility are you using to create that broker? I assumed Nwadmin, but Terry is right that console one doesn't have NDPS snapins. It does sound like that is what you are trying to do.

I guess that I what I was fishing for. I did notice that using nwadmin32 doesn't give me the errors for NDPS. I thank you all for you help and I greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,

Matt
