hi guys !!! got to servers one is just for test & some filesharing,,and the other is the primary, for production,,I just wonder if i have to install both like AD or, just install the primary and the first like a member server,,it seems like a god idea for me??

You can install only one server as Domain Controllers in your AD. Thats OK, but if you install a sencond one, your AD work if the fisrt one go down.

I must be missing something. I have two Domain Controllers, and there is active directory on both. Glen A. Johnson

Two DC's same network, same Domain = AD replication = same AD on both machines, you can setup trust relationships to provide replication to and from other domains in your tree

You have AD on 2 DC's because you ran DCPROMO twice :)

Microsoft recommends minimum of 2 Domain Controllers per domain. You can survie fine with one, and if you are a small company (will no real reliance on AD) you don't really need the 2nd DC, but you will have to rely on your backups.
