Hi, I've got IIS configured to host multiple websites using host headers. Our LAN domain is... let's say MYCOMP.com, I want to bring in-house.

Is this technically possible?

Here are my errors.

I type and everything works.

I type and I get an error HTTP 403 (forbidden).

Everything seems to be OK, I copied all the security settings in IIS from the other functional websites.

This is leading me down the road of DNS or some kind of conflict with my naming conventions of the website being the same as our internal domain.

Any ideas?

You need to add index.htm to IIS so that it knows to look for it as a default webpage. By default, I think it looks for default.htm.

Good luck,

If yoou have more than one server, you also need to add your DNS. I would add it even if you have the one server to avoid future problems.

All great suggestion, and I've done all of that, in fact outside the lan works fine and dns resolves to the public IP of the box.

Internally, our domain is called mycomp.com and the website is at So while everthing looks right in IIS, we keep getting this HTTP 403 (forbidden) page.

I'm stumped on this one.

Here's another strange thing. If I enter a new host called ww in dns it works. If I enter dns error 403.

Man it's going to be hard to explain to my users, when you are in the corporate office you must type ww.mycomp.com but when you leave these office walls it's
I can hear the phones ringing already :)

Can you hit the website by typing the IP Address?

Dan

Shoot, I wish I would have read your post before going on vacation! Now I've got to wait until Tuesday, but I'll give typing the IP address a try then.
