how to get windows update file for win98SE 3

I am missing the windows update file, but otherwise complete Win98SE. I need update file to find a later version of Microsoft installor

I don't think there is an update for the program you mention, unless I misunderstood you.
Windows98 updates can now be found here:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows98/downloads/corporate.asp

All the updates are separate now, so you'll have to choose the ones you need.
(I've downloaded the lot, including the text info for future use.)

My suggestions are what I would try myself. If incorrect, I welcome corrections to my rather limited knowledge. Andy.

I tried to visit the sight a week or two ago and the update catalogue had been removed. I assumed the almighty Microsoft had removed the option for Win98 users as that OS is no longer available for retail to the public, and they are discontinuing all support for it next year, but it seems to be available again in a slightly different guise.
I recommend downloading the files from the site I mentioned, though, in preparation for when these updates are no longer available. My suggestions are what I would try myself. If incorrect, I welcome corrections to my rather limited knowledge. Andy.

Is it possible to download critical and windows updates to keep on your hard drive?

Sorry to ask a question in someone else's thread, but it is related.

I format my computer quite often for various reasons, but having to download the windows updates every time is becoming tedious to say the least.

Can they be downloaded so that I can save them all to my hard drive, to burn onto a cd?

I had to do this to 50 machines last week. Go to Microsoft.com, click on Windows, enter Windows INstaller in the search box, enter, pick the INstaller for Win 98. I had to have it to load Norton Corporate Antivirus. Good Luck

Howdy:

The Windows catalogue as shown by HotFusion is the only way to go if you want to download and burn or save the updates.. For a simple update, then the url I gave is the one to use.
