how to get Powerpoint shows to autoupdate 1

I've got an Excel spreadsheet that I have linked in a Powerpoint show. In order to get the show to update the changes I have to open it up in Powerpoint, let it update itself, then resave. Is there a way to get the show to update itself when someone views it?

Sorry, Jody. I don't have the why of it, but wanted to let you know that, yes, this can be done--I've seen it done. But I believe it requires VBA.
