First off, I'm not a big excel wiz but:

A user gets the "macros in this sheet are disabled because etc etc etc" message when opening a sheet. They did not always get that, so they've added a macro somewhere or referenced a sheet with macros.

How do I get rid of it? I checked tools/macros and it doesn't seem to have any. I could look through the whole thing but it's huge and complex. Any help would be great, thanks!

If its excel 2000 then you may have to get the user to adjust the macro security settings. To do this choose TOOLS, MACROS, SECURITY and set to either medium or low.

Hope this solves the problem.

Do you have a SECURITY option if you click on TOOLS - MACRO?

Once you add macros, a workbook may think they are still there even if they are deleted. If this is the case, simply copy each worksheet to a different workbook. Then, use the new workbook in place of the one that contained the macros.

Thanks, I will check these out.

I forgot to mention the user is on Office 97, but the same message happens on my Excel 2002 machine.

verland - you also might hav phantom macros. If the suggestions above yield nothing, let me know and I can send you an add-in which extracts and removes phantom macros.
