In lotus when I type a number a plus sign and another number, Lotus understands I am doing a formula and treats it accordingly. When I do that in Excel it dies until/unless I go back and type an equals sign in front of the numbers. Is there somekind of Excel setting to make it behave like Lotus to get a sum without typing that first = sign?

It's 10 O'Clock ( somewhere! ).
Are your registry and data backed up?

nope

= signifies a formula
no = signifies a constant

Hi Diogenes,

If you check "Transition Formula Entry" under Tools > Options > Transition tab, you should get the behaviour you want.

Enjoy,
Tony
