Hi

I have recently installed a new HD and this is working fine. I wanted to use my old drive as a second drive, however when I boot up and get past POST I get the following error massage..."NTLDR is missing" and the system hangs.

I use W2K and the "old" drive still had the complete OS installed using NTFS file structure.

With W98 all I had to do to reformat my drives was boot to msdos mode from w98 shutdown panel and use my bootdisk with FDISK and FORMAT commands..how on earth do I set a partion and format this NTFS hard drive from W2K..I am really stumped on this one.

Bye the way, I have to physically have to disconect this HD in order to boot to w2k now!?

Thanks

Pete

i think the simplest solution would be to go a low level format from within your system BIOS. On startup press f1 or delete key to enter the BIOS. you should be able to find the format utility from in there.

ok your windows 2000 cd is bootable which means it has all system files on it including it's own fdisk and format. simply have the cd in the computer before you power up and that should bring you to a blue screen just follow the direction from there....... :-D

First of all make sure that you changed the jumpers on the old drive, so that it is no longer set to master.

You can format the drive in W2K, by going to Administrative Tools in the Control Panel. Select Computer Management, storage and Disk Management.

Thanks for the replies guys.

rfeenie, I looked in my bios and I didn't see whether I could do a low level format in there.

Jangolion and smsdude, aha...didn't realise fdisk etc was on the w2k cd-rom.

Cheers....got it sorted, thanks for the help

Pete.
