I have packaged a software which uninstalls an older version and then installs itself. After the uninstallation of the older version software i want to go for a restart and then immediately after the restart my newer version software should go for installation. Please suggest me how to go about it. I am using Wise Package studio to package softwares..

Create an uninstall script with a restart variable at the end (used to be Restart=S in older versions of Wise - not sure if it still is). Also in the same script create an entry to amend the RunOnce registry key to point to your install MSI file. See below for details on RunOnce.

The only thing to bear in mind is that the PC will have to be logged in before RunOnce will run the install program. Alternatives to this are AutoAdminLogon or you could create a service to do the job. Or of course AD if you have it.

Or just do a call to:

shutdown -f -r

A native XP utility.
