How to fix WinXP restarting ??

While loading up WinXP Pro SP1, my system ( Celeron 466) kept on restarting half way through ! What are the possible causes for this ? ( I just had a brand new power supply installed last week). Please advise how to fix this problem . Thanks...

More info would help. Are you trying to upgrade or is this a fresh install on a newly formatted drive? Why did you replace the power supply? We're you having this issue before? Did you have XP pro on this system before? If not have you checked to see if it meets the minimum hardware requirements (ram, etc.)?

_I changed the power supply as the old one was finished ( 3 years old ). It's working O.K. for the past week after the new power supply installation.

_ The PC system is 3 year old and has been on WinXP Pro + Sp1 for 14 months without any problem.

So why are you having to reload XP?

I am afraid I did not state the problem clearly enough! When I started the PC, it restarted by itself suddenly while loading WinXP . I guessed there might be some system files missing or something else ??

the system is probably blue screening. There is an option to stop that howevr if you cannot get into xp at all then i beleive the next step would be to format and start from scratch. try going into safemode. if you get in go to system properties, go to the advanced tab then click on setting under start up and recovery. click on settings and in there you will find an option under "system failure" to restart automatically. make sure that is unchecked.

Thanks, karlehenry, for your suggestions. As you mentioned, it was perhaps "blue screening" due to some corrupted system files . So I just reinstalled WinXP and chose the "Repair" option . Fortunately, it worked in this case ! I am back to normalcy now .

I was a bit surprised when you mentioned "reformat" the HD . This is a drastic and last resort solution only. Perhaps you have a reason . Please elaborate.
