Please forgive my ignorance - I'm blonde and female - what do you expect!
I am trying to set up outlook express to send and receive email from my website.
It wants to know what the smtp server is of my ISP which is the delightfully prescriptive AOL.
Please can anyone help me - I don't want to send and receive aol email through outlook express, just my website email.
I don't seem to be able to find out the smtp details I need...
Any help is very gratefully received

thanks

lynne

AOL uses its own proprietary program for email (all integrated into the AOL interface - good for newbies).

If you want to send email from your domain, you have to use the SMTP address from your domain host - if they don't provide one, you will (unfortunately) have to send your email through AOL, or find an ISP in your area who uses conventional POP3/SMTP

Lynne, I would not use an AOL address on a website anyway, many admins block AOL because of the tons of spam. I suppose your website has a domain name like If so, use that domain for email. If not, register it, it's cheap! Get your ISP to provide you with a mailbox.

If 'something' 'somewhere' gives 'some' error, expect random guesses or no replies at all. Please specify details.

I do use my own domain for email - lynne@hornet-uk.com, and I wanted to use outlook express to send and receive emails to and from that domain name only - AOL mail doesn't come into the equation anywhere.
I chatted with their very (un)helpful staff last night who just kept wittering on about as it wasn't an AOL question they wouldn't help - all I needed was the SMTP details. I can manage the rest.

In the end my forehead started to bleed from banging it against the monitor, so I installed an smtp server on my PC, and sent the mail from "localhost"

AOL are fascists - restrictive and prescriptive.
I will dump them as soon as I find an alternative ISP which is comparable in price and doesn't cut me off every 2 hours

Thanks for your help though, as always, much appreciated...
