I have had XP PRO now about a 8 months and have noticed that only 2 files can be downloaded at the same time. My question is of course, is there a way around this or an option to change... Im thinking a registry edit perhaps.....Any ideas will be helpful........Thanx....JL

one easy way is to use a download manager. just google "download manager" and you will be given tons of items to choose from.

hope this helps. peace! [peace]

Allow More Than Two Simultaneous Downloads in Internet Explorer

If you have a fast Internet connection and you're into downloads, you're probably frustrated with the two simultaneous download limit enforced by Internet Explorer. The hard coded limit was placed there because it made sense in the days of the analog modem. Now that more and more people have access to fast connections, who wants to be limited to just two downloads at the same time? Here's how you get around the problem:

1. Click Start and then click the Run command.
2. Type regedit in the Open text box and click OK.
3. Navigate to the following Registry Key:
HKEY CURRENT USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings
4. In the Registry Editor, click the Edit menu, point to New and then click DWORD Value.
5. Replace the New Value #1 entry with MaxconnectionsPer1_0Server. Double click that value. In the Edit DWORD Value dialog box, type 0000000a.
6. Repeat steps 4 and 5. Except this time name the value MaxConnectionsPerServer.
7. Close the Registry Editor and close all Internet Explorer windows.

I agree with the regedit.... while there are indeed a number of download managers out there - a lot of them will (unless you're very careful during the install - and read all the fine print) load some rather unwanted "peripheral" items....

Change your browser to Firefox - it will do at least 8 in parallel with no registry fudges :)

Most web servers still won't allow more than 2 concurrent downloads from users at this point anyways.. my favorite download manager is GetRight... however I also use FireFox for most stuff.

Just a note on the registry edit:
The limits of 2 and 4 respectively are part of the HTTP standard. This has nothing to do with analog or non-analog modem considerations.

WinInet will limit the number of simultaneous connections that it will make to a single HTTP server. If you exceed this limit the requests will block until one of the current connections has completed. This is by design and is in agreement with the HTTP specifications and industry standards.

WinInet will limit connections to a single HTTP 1.0 server to four simultaneous connections. Connections to a single HTTP 1.1 server will be limited to two simultaneous connections. The HTTP 1.1 specification (RFC 2068) mandates the two connection limit while the four connection limit for HTTP 1.0 is a self-imposed restriction which coincides with the standard used by a number of Web browsers.

Just curious if you guys happen to know whether firefox has any extensions for resuming its downloads ?
