Currently, my crystal report displays each record on separate page. I want all records to be displayed on the same page grouped by a field I have chosen.
I want to group items by location, so, grouped on location field, but it isn't grouping items by location.
How can I fix this? Thanks.

Check format->section->details and make sure you have NOT checked "New page after" or "New page before" or "Print at the bottom of the page." Then go to report->change group expert and toggle the location group so that it is the highest order group.

you are going to have to tell us more about your report for a good answer...if you have ONLY grouped by Location...then it should work....what other stuff is there....

The quality of the answer is directly proportional to the quality of the problem statement!

The report now appears in one page after resetting the "new page before" property.

It still is not grouping by Location even when I grouped items by Location. The other fields (item, description, warehouse) on the report are from a related table (FK itemID). Also, how can I display the group header (Location)on the report ? I am using Crystal ver. 8.01. Thanks.

Go to report->change group expert to see what groups have been inserted, and then report back to us.

To place the groupname on the report (someone must have removed it, since it automatically populates the group header when you insert a group), run your cursor over the gray area to the left of the report canvas where it says GH until you find the one identfied as Location, and then drag the location field to the group header.

Change group expert shows tablename.Location - A.

I thought so too when inserting group, it automatically populates the group header name (i.e. name of the field grouping by). I tried Insert field: Group Name Fields and dragging group #1 name:tablename.Location to the GH section, still doesn't show the group header name. Then dragged it to detail section, same result.
Then, instead of Location, I grouped and placed different field (WarehouseID) in the GH section, seems like whatever
I group and place on the GH or Detail section, it won't display anything. Checked the format section setting for Group header and unchecked everything, no change in result. Is there any report setting that I am not aware of? Thanks.

Have you tried to insert this field while in design mode? I have at times had trouble inserting a field while in preview--without exactly knowing why.

In file->options make sure you have "insert group name with group" is checked.

LB,

I am in design mode. In file-> options, "insert group name with group" is checked. Same result. Tried Insert:Field object:Special Field:group Number in detail section, shows
group number 1 for all locations. Does it mean, it is not
grouping at all? Thanks.

Are you sure there is more than one location? What happens if you place the location field in the details section?

Are you sure there are no other objects in these sections, e.g., subreports, text boxes, etc.?

I'm all out of ideas otherwise.
