How to disable server time update NT4 Workstation?

Hi all,

I have a user who is part of a testing team. As a part of his testing he must change the system time and date back from anywhere between 15 minutes and a few weeks.

Unfortunately the system automatically sync's the time and date with the server. So every time you change the time / date, the system updates it again.

The system needs to be connected to the network in order to do the testing as large databases are involved, so disconnecting him from the network is not an option.

Is there a registry setting to disable the server time update on a Windows NT 4 workstation?

I appreciate any assistance given.

What sort of server?
Time sync is usually done via a logon script when you start up - but yours is dynamic? (does it actually allow you to change the time? If so, how long before it reverts to server time). If it is dynamic sounds like a background job or service is running to keep it synchronised.

HI wolluf, thanks for your response. I am not 100% sure what prompts the time update / sync with the workstations. I assume its a registry setting.

As soon as a PC is rebooted, the time is reset. But I do not believe it to be a part of the login script.

If it happens on reboot then its almost certainly a login script (which is normal) - this is defined on the server against the domain account - so you just need to either remove the login script on the server for this user - or if the script contains other essential stuff, have a custom script without the synchronisation set up and assigned to just this user. You'll need to get your system admin people to do this (note - I've been a software tester for many years - and have encountered this in various forms before).
