Hi,

On my Windows 2000 machine, when I map a drive, I think the password is cached somewhere. When the remote mapped machine changed the new logon passwd, I cannot login anymore with the new password. What can be done?

Thanks,

Neither through the GUI interface to Map a drive, nor through the Net Use command line syntax is a saved credential event occasioned, unless you explicitly use the Net Use /savecred option.

Something else is going on to explain your difficulties.
In a Domain setting, you may have tried too quickly. It takes a while for the password change to be replicated if you have multiple servers.

It would help incredibly if you were more specific as to:

. your client OS, and Service Pack Level
. your DC or PDC, OS and service pack levels

For example, if I mapped an FTP site, after the ftp site changed the login password, I cannot mapped the site again with new password. This happens on all Windows systems, NT, 2000, XP...

Thanks,

Excuse me, but you did not create a Net.exe command mapping event with your FTP site.

That was the suggestion in your original post.

Double clicl to Open My Computer, and right-click, Delete the FTP Web site active directory appearances if they exist.

Open IE, Tools, Internet Options, General tab, Temporary Internet Files, Delete Files, and click the option for offline Web Content. Clear all.

In addition, to be sure:
Start, Run, control userpasswords2
Advanced tab, Manage Passwords
Make the deletions or edits that may be required there.

Then download and install and use this excellent freeeware utility: CCleaner
Best wishes,
Bill Castner
