I am trying to disable the hold beep. I read an old thread where it suggested checking the external MOH box under telephony; I have done that and it still beeps. Has anyone ever done this before? Thanks in advance!

You need to reboot once changing to external for it to work in my experiance :-)

I will try that tonight - thanks.

Quick question though if clients or callers don't hear a beep won't they think they have been dropped? Do you have an external device for MoH?

yes, the beep is good as teh IPO is dead silent when on hold, except if you have static on your analog phone line.
Also make sure that you do not have an alternate MoH source in the incoming call routes setup or in the groups

If you can't be good, be good at it!

disable the beep but don't want silence? sounds like an odd customer

Pfffff sometimes i wish i was a salesmen :-)
Then i would tell the customer that this is possible :-)

They want silence because they do conference calls and one guy in the office may put his phone on hold temporarily and the beep irritates everyone. Reboot did the trick - thx amriddle01 :)

HE also could just mute the phone if he does not want that the other callers hear him
Now nobody hears the beep but just silence

why don't you then record a silent holdmusic.wav using and set this as your system hold music.

Then you can also have different hold music defined by incoming call routes/hunt groups/users etc so that calls on hold won't get the silence, but if a caller is placed on hold outside of this, e.g. conference calling, they get holdmusic.wav.

I think that might work.

Tlpeter's idea is best. What about when you put a client on hold? how will they know they are still connected?

Never argue with an idiot. bystanders won't be able to tell the difference.

I would rather hear nothing than that irritating beep. The customer likes it silent so all is well.

i dont think they have looked at the bigger picture.
