Hi,
I don't know if "auto-window-docking" is the right term, but when I drag windows to move them out of the way, Windows 7 seems to 'assume' that I want the window either maximized or docked.

If I drag to either side, it "half-maximizes" on that side--filling half the screen on whatever edge of the screen I'd happened to drag the window to. If I drag even a small window towards the top, voila!--it maximizes the window covering the entire screen, which of course is the exact opposite of what I was trying to accomplish.

How do I turn this off?
Thanks,
--Jim

fyi: if the pointer doesn't touch the side, "snap" will not take effect either.

Thanks for the link, eritguy.

And dneufarth, I've used Windows 7 on at least 7 or 8, maybe more, different machines. From what I've seen, the cursor doesn't have to be all the way at the edge of the screen, just pretty close. I prefer to be able to "snap" to the sides, etc, but at times the feature is annoying, when I don't want to snap. But it's rare enough for me to matter, that I think I'll leave it enabled. That's one feature I love in Windows 7.

Trick - if you don't release the mouse key and drag slightly back to center, the "snapped" window outline will disappear and no "snap" will take place -- just the window relocation.

When I move a window, I usually grab the Title bar nearer the opposite side of the direction I'm placing the window. "Snap" tends not to get in my way then. I like the feature though!

That's a good thought, dneufarth, on grabbing the opposite site of the direction you're moving the window.. except it won't work for going to the top of the screen. [wink]

Either way, a good thought.
