You cannot do this via any Excel interface. I have seen (VBA) code which does it (but can't remember where - maybe someone else knows) but what it does (with a lot of API calls) is hijack the screen and overpaint the status bar area. It struck me as a bit of "look how clever I am" code rather than anything really useful.

Yes, I am aware of Excel intefaces inability to control the font in status bar. It depends on the screen setting rather than on the Excel application itself. I am also aware the API can do the trick; this is what I am after. Thanks for the reply anyway.
