Hello,

I try to configure a HPLJ 5Si on a Solaris 9 system. The 5Si connects to LAN via JetDriect. The Sun box will not be a printer server.

Following is the 5Si's configuration:
===JetDirect Parameters Configured===
IP Address : 198.4.195.93
Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway : 198.4.195.1
Syslog Server : Not Specified
Idle Timeout : 90 Seconds
Set Cmnty Name : Not Specified
Host Name : NPI1CF6A7
Default Get Cmnty : Enabled
DHCP Config : Disabled
Passwd : Disabled
IPX/SPX : Disabled
DLC/LLC : Disabled
Ethertalk : Disabled
Banner page : Enabled

On the Solaris 9 system, I use followingcommands to configure a printer p5si:
# lpadmin -p p5si -v /dev/null -m netstandard -o dest=198.4.195.93:9100 protocol=tcp \
-o nobanner -T unknown -I any
# enable (and accept) p5si

From StarOffice, send a word document to p5si. The printout reads as:
%!PS-Adobe-3.0
%%BoundingBox: (atend)
%%...

System background:
SunOS 5.9 Generic_117171-13 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-5_10

Thanks in advance,
Warren

if the Printer can print postscript I suggest to configure it with this command and try again
Code:
#lpadmin -p p5si -v /dev/null -m netstandard -o dest=198.4.195.93[b]:raw[/b] protocol=tcp -o nobanner [b]-T PS -I postscript[/b]

to make a copy of /dev/null pls. read my post in thread60-785170

Best Regards, Franz

You can install the HP Jetadmin tool on your Sun box.

Go to HP's website, and looking for "SOLe118.PKG", it's very easy to setup and use, and you can have full functions for your printer.

Cheers,

Achech
