I want to clone Drive C to a new Hitachi 80 GB HD and make it the master. Computer Profile: Windows 98 SE, 450 MHz Celeron, C Drive (Segate 8.46 GB), D Drive Primary Slave (Quantum 20.55 GB), E drive (partition on C Drive), Main board Abit BX6R2 (i440BX-W977), 256 MB memory, BIOS: Award 4.51 PG 01/05/99. I have Drive2Drive software for cloning. Cannot boot up when replacing Drive D with new drive. Also tried with boot up floppy, did not get past screen that says Del to inter setup. IDE HDD in BIOS Type is set as user. How do I change this setting to auto detect? All instruction will be appreciated. I hope this is ok as it is my first posting. Thanks

First issue - does your machine recognise the 80GB drive? (As the bios is from 1999, it quite likely has the 32GB limitation). If is your model, the latest bios includes support for 40GB+ drives (says it doesn't know max - but usual limit after 32GB is 128GB, so hopefully will recognise your 80GB drive after upgrade. Make sure you read the instructions at top of that page for upgrading bios.

Hopefully, you should be able to proceed if bios upgrade is successful.

Thanks to wolluf for the heads up on what my BIOS might recognize. It did not recognize an 80 GB drive. Instead of trying to upgrade the BIOS, I chose to get a 30 GB drive and clone it. I used the Drive2Drive software and it worked perfectly. Now I have a nice size 30 GB master drive.
