I removed an IP Office that was connected to Cisco switch. How do I change the Manager settings for phones to pull firmware from PC? I changed Preferences's TFTP and TFTP SERVER IP Address under system to my PC's nic IP - 192.168.42.213.

Thanks

for IP phones your DHCP server provides that information in option 176 (older phones) or option 242

for digital phones the system has the information and if you have manager running (check under file- preferences) it need to be enabled and then restart manager.

Do you choose Enable BootP and TFTP SERVERS option?

I forgot to mention, the phones are digital 5420s.

Manager needs to be open and have the TFTP server option enabled, it doesn't run in the background, also make sure no AV/firewall is running as they block TFTP for fun :-)

Digital 5420 phones do NOT require a tftp server. Any software update is done through the IP Office but if you do not upgrade the IP Office a software update on the phones is very unlikely.

Intrigrant, yes they do, you are assuming its a 500v2, if it isn't Manager acts as TFTP server as you well know :-)

A 5420 is a Digital Station connected to a DS port on the IP Office, a 5620 is a IP telephone conected to the LAN and ( sometimes ) it requires a tftp server but it can do without once set to the proper software level.

Addendum:
5 = IP Office only, 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 9 = CM & IP Office ( not all models on IP Office )
4 = Digital station, 6 = IP Station, 7 = wireless
01, 02, 08, 10, 16, 20 etc = number of programmable buttons

Nice, so when you had an IP500 (not v2) or 406 etc and you need to give handsets their firmware how was this done? I remember it pulled it from Manager and you could see that happen using the TFTP log.....correct me if I'm wrong :-)

Myself said:

This means IP Office must be either the file server with a Compact Flash or SD card fitted OR you have a running manager as a tftp server OR a 3th party TFTP server like the good old 3Com TFTP server
You are right on that but as siad before, upgrading these phones is sometimes only necessery if IP Office is upgraded and then you need the above TFTP options as well.....

If you don't know how to do a IP Office upgrade then don't go fuzzing around and ask a specialist for help
