Hi,
I have ghost clonig software. But after imaging is done, it retains the hostname of the original machine. I need to change the host name dynamically or running a batch file.
Is there any way I can do this?
Please let me know.
regards,
Sas

changing the host name can't be done from the command , becasue it's not supported in Windows 2000 ..
you can check the command hostname from the prombt ..

Mohamed,
Then how to automate this process?
Do you mean, there is no other way???

I have heard of sysprep, does anybody know, how to use and will that be usefull in naming a computer, with random name creation.

Sysprep is used to create system images ...

I don't know if yoiu can use it to automate ?

the name can't be changed automatically ... or using scripts !

Sysprep can be used to automate the setup process (mini setup) after the client machine has been imaged. This includes setting time zones, certain hardware and joining the machine to your domain. However, manual input of the machine name is still necessary as there is no way to rename the machine automatically.

That said, GhostWalker can be set up to generate a RANDOM machine name. However, if you're like most organizations and you rely on machine names for certain desktop management tasks, this random machine name generator is next to useless.

Sysprep is your best bet, as after imaging, you need about 5 seconds at each machine in order to type in the new machine name and press ENTER.

All the Best
