All I want to do is "Copying Mail Files from Outlook Express 6" to a backup folder, preferably to a USB external hard drive.

I have at least 6 pages of tips from Microsoft how to do that,
but they relate to Outlook 2000, 2002 and 2004 and non of them works for me, and none of them related to Outlook Express 6.

Could a good soul, like Mr. Castner, help me do that?
In July 2006, I changed over from Win98 to WinXP and by doing that I lost ALL my "Inbox" and "sent items" files that I had for the last 5 years.....

This I why, I am eager to create a backup collection of my new "Inbox" and "sent" files, so this loss will not happen again.

Thank you very much for your help.

Do a search for *.dbx files to locate where your e-mails are stored.

They should be located in a similar location to this -
C:\Documents and Settings\UserNamexxxx\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{45892BBA-8447-42B9-8B72-9DF2CAD1B5E5}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

You may have to show Hidden and System Files in Folder Options/ View, and Search Preferences should be set to search hidden and system files.

How to back up and recover Outlook Express data

Go into Outlook Express and click on Tools + Options. Click on the Maintenance tab. Copy the store location and paste it into the RUN command by going to START + RUN. There is all of your OE dats. Copy that to an external disk

I got fed up of trying to figure this one out (I did not have the links the guys have posted above though), so I bit the bullet and put Outlook on my PC and back up the PST file on a regular basis.

Memo to Bcastner, TouchToneTommy, eyec, linney, Tekmazter and TheLad:
Thank you very much for your inputs, they were all valuable.
I liked the Outlook Express, Backup Wizard very much, however you can only Save the file and Restore them.

I noticed that with Outlook Express, Quick Backup (which is a different program) if you go into Windows Explorer and go the the folder "Main Identity" and open "Adress-Book", you can sear ch for a particular entry, and it will give you the email address of that entry, which you cannot do with Outlook Express, Backup Wizard.Unless this feature is blocked, until you get the full version for $39.50.
Well, I was very impressed with your inputs and I thank you again.
