How to audit MS word file ?

I had set some MS Word files with r/w audit (both success and fail) control on W2000 server . But after I modified the Word file and saved , the audit configuration loss ! Do you know how to set the audit for MS office files ?

Do you have auditing enabled in Group or Local policy on the server?

Yes . Other type of files (such as .txt) works well . I also can get audit event when I access the Word file first time after I set the audit configuration . But when I save the Word again, the audit configuration loss !
