how to associate extension with app in IE

I have both adobe acrobat 4 (reader) and 5 (writer).

Installing acrobat 5 unfortunately associated PDF files with acrobat 5. I re-associated pdf files with acrobat 4, so now when I double click a pdf file in windows explorer, it is opened by acrobat 4... HOWEVER when clicking on a pdf link on a web page in internet explorer, it still opens in acrobat 5. How can I fix this association within my browser?

I have Acrobat 6.0, it took over from Acrobat Reader 6.0 that was installed earlier. Not a bad thing, just Acrobat is more powerful as it is intended to be. Doesn't seem to take any longer to open. I'll always use programs I've paid for over the free ones.

Is there a particular need for Acrobat Reader 4 that Acrobat 5 can't handle?

well like I said, the acrobat 4 I have is just the reader, which opens files in a snap, whereas acrobat 5 is the full program which takes much longer to startup.

Given that AAR4 will open very quickly on modern kit, it will not open PDF ver1.4 (Acrobat 5) and PDF ver1.5 (Acrobat 6).

I can understand you using AA5 and Reader 6.

ok I might need to install the acrobat reader 6, but that doesn't help me find an answer to why files associated in the browser are not associated the same as in windows explorer...

unless I think when you install AR6.0, you get the question if it should associate it's IE-plugin with pdf-files. If you do that, it should be ok.
