How to add a dns/url to an existing website

Hi all;

We are hosting a website using MS II5, front end, Coldfusion and SQL server 2000 as a back end. At the moment the website can be accessed from outside by typing in the IP address. But most recently the company applied for a DNS and got a URL that we can use instead of the IP address. What do I have to do to add the url name so people can access the site by typing in the URL (eg.

http://www.sitename.com)

instead of the IP address (eg.

http://199.199.1.199)?

do you control the dns server for yourcompany.com??? If so, just add a record for

http://WWW pointing

to the iis server

No, I don't control the DNS server. The company that I work submitted the IP address that we are currently using for our website to a DoD that assigns DNS names. I'm assuming that we need to add the proper URL, (eg.

http://www.sitename.com)

somewhere in the IIS configuration so the site knows what name to use and respond when people type in the name instead of the IP address.
