How much memory can I put in a Dell Dimension 2400?

Some places it says 512MB/slot giving 1MB total and others 1024MB/slot giving 2MB total.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Here's what the manual says:

You can add up to 1GB of memory (512MB per slot). To be on the safe side, be sure to purchase from a vendor that guaratees compatibility with the Dimension 2400. I recommend which has a configurator to help you select the right memory.

is also a good place to look. If you want to brave it, you can search on for the best prices on PC2100 or PC2700 DDR SDRAM memory. Just buy the same type you have now.

If you have a celeron installed, you probably have PC2100. If you have a P4, you probably have PC2700. Check in the BIOS settings to be sure.

Yeah, it looks like Dell has 1GM DDR modules, but the limit on the machine is 1GB total, So while I can have more than 1GB installed, it will only recognize 1GB.

Actually, it probably won't recognize modules over 512MB according to the manual.
